Christi’s passion for animals began in her formative years growing up in Colorado helping her family take care of the neighborhood’s stray cats and dogs, as well as orphaned or displaced wildlife. From salamanders and tarantulas to squirrels and raccoons, she developed a deep love for creatures of all kinds.

 

 

Her journey into the world of animal care took a significant step in 2006 while volunteering with injured and orphaned wildlife at Northwest Wildlife Rehabilitation and the Whatcom County Marine Mammal Stranding Network. During this time, she achieved her Veterinary Assistant Certification at Bellingham Technical College in Washington state, graduating at the top of her class, Phi Theta Kappa, and on the President’s List. Alongside her studies, Christi rediscovered her musical talent, taking up the Musical Saw.

 

 

Aspiring to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Christi returned to her roots in Colorado. She continued her passion for wildlife rehabilitation by volunteering at Wildkind and the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program. Her academic journey included earning an Associates of Science with a concentration in Biology from Front Range Community College in 2009 (Phi Theta Kappa), followed by pre-veterinary studies. In 2013, she attained her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Concentration in Animal Anatomy and Physiology and a Minor in Biomedical Science from Colorado State University.

 

During her time in Colorado, Christi expanded her horizons by singing and playing the Musical Saw in various bands. She also became a roller derby official for the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, leading her to travel for concerts and tournaments, including international playoffs and the women’s roller derby World Cup!

 

 

Due to the special care required by her senior dog, Darwin, during her undergraduate studies, Christi put her veterinary school aspirations on hold. In 2014, she moved to the south of Sun Valley, Idaho, where she managed a dairy goat farm startup and worked part-time in a local veterinary clinic.

 

In 2015, Christi relocated to the Verde Valley to spend time with her terminally ill step-mother, renowned local artist Patricia McMullen Mikles. This move also brought her closer to her younger brother and father, Dr. Devin Mikles MD, MD(H), FACP, founder of Choices Integrative Healthcare of Sedona. During this time, she worked as a veterinary technician in Sedona until transitioning to full-time professional petsitting in 2019. Testimonials from some of Christi’s clients can be found here.

Presently, Christi shares her life with her partner and love of her life, artist Marc Huebert, and their dog Uma. In addition to her role as a Traveling Petsitter, she explores self-healing and supports others through the Japanese system of Reiki.
