Local Pet Sitters Unite to Promote Professional Pet Care

The business of pet sitting has grown rapidly in the Verde Valley as more and more caring pet owners look to in-home care when they must leave a pet behind to go on vacation or have to work long hours.

A handful of Verde Valley pet sitters came together in January 2023 to form the Verde Valley Professional Pet Sitters Network. The purpose of this new networking group is to provide the pet-sitting members with business-related support, to build an awareness of the pet-sitting industry in the local community and to educate and support local pet owners and pet-related groups and charities.

For pet owners, in-home pet sitting provides a unique alternative to boarding facilities—or relying on family or neighbors to check on pets. Pet sitters come to the home daily and animals are able to keep their regular routines for meals, walks and medication and receive one-on-one care and attention. Owners report that their pets experience less stress and adjust better to their owners’ absence when the pets remain in their normal environment. Most pet sitters also offer the bonus of home security measures by bringing in mail and newspapers, rotating lighted areas, opening and closing draperies and providing other touches that make the house appear occupied while the owner is away.

Through membership with Pet Sitters International, Verde Valley Professional Pet Sitters Network members have access to business-related benefits such as liability insurance, bonding, background checking, a professional pet-sitter certification program and more.
